About Lab Grown Diamonds
A lab grown diamond is a diamond in the fullest sense of the word: the same carbon crystal, the same sparkle, the same hardness as a diamond pulled from the ground. The only difference is where it was born. Instead of forming in the earth's mantle over billions of years, it grows in a laboratory over a matter of weeks, under conditions scientists have learned to control with remarkable precision.
How Lab Grown Diamonds Are Made
Two methods produce nearly all of the world's lab grown diamonds. In HPHT (high pressure, high temperature), a small diamond seed is placed in a press with pure carbon and subjected to pressures and temperatures similar to those deep underground, until the carbon crystallizes around the seed. In CVD (chemical vapor deposition), the seed sits in a sealed chamber filled with carbon-rich gas; the gas breaks down and carbon atoms settle onto the seed layer by layer. Both methods produce a rough diamond crystal that is then cut and polished by the same craftspeople, on the same wheels, as any mined diamond.
Are Lab Grown Diamonds Real?
Yes. A lab grown diamond is chemically, physically, and optically identical to a mined diamond, and gemological laboratories grade both on the same scales. The distinction is origin, not substance. Telling them apart takes specialized equipment that measures trace growth characteristics; no jeweler can do it with a loupe, and no one can do it with the naked eye.
Quality: The Same 4Cs Apply
Cut, color, clarity, and carat weight grade lab grown diamonds exactly as they grade mined ones. That shared language is what makes comparison honest. At Aaditya Jewel we fix the standard so you never have to decode it piece by piece: every center or solitaire diamond is Color E with VVS2 clarity, every side or accent diamond is Color E-F with VVS-VS clarity, and the center stone is certified by IGI.
Lab Grown Diamonds vs Moissanite
Moissanite is often mentioned in the same breath, but it is a different gemstone altogether: silicon carbide rather than carbon, with more rainbow fire and a slightly different kind of sparkle. It is beautiful and extremely durable, and it costs less again. If you are weighing all three options, our Moissanite vs Lab Grown Diamond vs Diamond page lays out the full comparison, and our Lab Grown vs Natural Diamonds page covers the two-diamond question in depth.
Why Buyers Choose Lab Grown
More diamond for the budget. Without mining and a long chain of middlemen, the same money buys a noticeably larger or higher-grade stone. Conflict free by origin. A laboratory stone has no connection to conflict mining, ever. A smaller footprint. Growing a diamond uses energy, but it does not move mountains of earth or reshape landscapes. For most of our customers, those three reasons, in some order, settle the question.
